Today I was <\/strong>reached by the sad new that my email friend and owner of Arcturus Books in Florida, Bob Girard, passed away last Friday the 12th. We only met once at his office in Scotia on April 19th 1987. I still have my notes and tape recording from our long conversation. But we exchanged so many emails and letters during the years that I now feel a void after this energetic and knowledgeable man.<\/p>\n \u201cI can honestly say that all important things I learned in life I learned after starting this business\u201d, Bob said as we sat down between the shelves filled with books. He saw his Arcturus not only as I way to make a living, which it only partly was, but also as a way to connect to people, strange and wonderful people that he would never had been able to find without his book list.<\/p>\n Bob Girard started <\/strong>Arcurus Books in 1980 and Arcturus Books was his life. He wanted his business to serve the entire world with books about UFOs, hollow Earth, psychic phenomena, ancient astronauts and so on. Sometimes he hated it, threatened to close it down, sent angry emails to reluctant costumers but in the end he still gave us the best and most valuable service that any book seller could give.<\/p>\n \u201cMy dream was to have one business in which the entire worlds literature on these subjects was all under one roof\u201d, he told me.<\/p>\n Bob Girard loved<\/strong> books, and he really wanted us to read them. First his book lists were sent around the world through ordinary mail but as soon as email gave him that option we got his lists in our computer.<\/p>\n I can confess of having bought hundreds of books thanks to Bob. But as Amazon and other internet based book shops came around he lost much of his costumers. And he hated the large internet shops.<\/p>\n Late nights, <\/strong>Swedish time, we could have email conversations about books, life and everything. His interest in UFOs went back to 1950. And he had read loads of books, not only about UFOs but also about his other grand interest history.<\/p>\n Bob was a uniqe person. I will miss him greatly.<\/p>\n PS: Yesterday Wendy Grossman’s obituary about Hilary Evans was published in The Guardian<\/a>.<\/p>\n I dag hann jag<\/strong> \u00e4ntligen klart med min artikel om Betty Hill f\u00f6r UFO Matrix. Inte s\u00e5 dumt. \u00c4gnade en stor del av f\u00f6rmiddagen \u00e5t att skriva klart den men nu k\u00e4nner jag mig n\u00f6jd och kunde skicka den till redakt\u00f6ren Malcolm Robertson. Sedan har jag haft kontakt med den f\u00f6rre redakt\u00f6ren, Philip Mantle, som l\u00e4mnade tidskiften efter br\u00e5k med ledningen f\u00f6r n\u00e5gon m\u00e5nad sedan.<\/p>\n Philip undrade n\u00e4mligen om AFU ville k\u00f6pa den uniform som polismannen Alan Godfrey<\/a> bar n\u00e4r han m\u00f6jligen blev den f\u00f6rste britt att bli ombordtagen i slutet av 1980. S\u00e5 det gjorde jag f\u00f6r 200 pund. Min f\u00f6rhoppning \u00e4r att uniformen ska vara ett f\u00f6rem\u00e5l i en kommande permanent utst\u00e4llning p\u00e5 AFU och att vi d\u00e5 ska kunna bygga en avdelning om ombordtagningar kring uniformen och annat som vi har i v\u00e5ra lager.
